If you are an average genealogist who wants a good program, you might want to try these first. They offer the best tradeoff of features versus ease of use. They all get excellent ratings from reviewers. They include RootsMagic and Family Tree Legends for Windows users, and Reunion for Mac users.

These programs are good programs that are deserving of your consideration. Because of their popularity they have large support groups and you should be able to find other people in your area using them. Family Tree Maker is the top seller in retail stores. PAF is available as a free download from the LDS Church. Legacy has a free and a deluxe edition. Brother's Keeper and GenoPro are very popular shareware programs.
